Purpose of the Post:  Under the supervision of the Chief, Advocacy and Partnerships, contributes to the conceptualization, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of a public advocacy and communication strategy to get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF’s mission and objectives at national and county levels, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • With the Chief of Communication develops and implements a public advocacy and communication strategy to get children’s’ and women’s issues into the public domain, and strengthens political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives. Develops key partnerships with parliamentarians, county leaders, civil society organizations and other leaders to advance the social policy advocacy agenda. Develops communication indicators and monitors the impact of communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Develops close collaboration with mass media through activities such as organizing visits to project sites, facilitating photo coverage and TV footage, and utilizes both digital media and traditional media when appropriate to generate and maintain public interest in children’s and women’s issues, to tell the story of UNICEF's cooperation to a wider audience.
  • Coordinates the development, posting and maintenance of new and updated material for the UNICEF Kenya web-site. Identifies the need for radio and television programmes, publications, photographs etc., to advocate and promote organizational/programme goals within the country, and manages their production and distribution to the target audiences. Adapts and disseminates advocacy materials from New York, Geneva and the Regional Office to identified target audiences, arranging translations into local language(s), as necessary.
  • Strengthens capacity of groups and  organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives through appropriate advocacy and communication training, access to updated information, supplies and equipment and through experience-sharing.
  • Engages nationally known personalities and organizes special events and activities to support country programme goals.  Generates public support for special events, including the launch of the UNICEF flagship publication, e.g. the State of the World’s Children Report.
  • Assists the Country Office, HQ and the Regional Office in identifying and writing feature stories and other material to facilitate global/regional advocacy and fund-raising activities, particularly in support of National Committee efforts to mobilize resources.
  • Identifies, recruits and supervises technical resources and consultants, as necessary, for the above activities.
  • Plans visits of Goodwill ambassadors, National Committee representatives and Executive Board members, including preparation of information materials (e.g., press releases, programme summaries, country fact sheets and media kits), and makes the necessary logistical arrangements.
  • Participates in UN Communication Group meetings, including support for the development and implementation of the Communicating as One advocacy and communication strategy (e.g. articles for monthly newsletters, media briefings and coordination of UN day activities with other members of the UNCG).
Required Qualifications: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations; or equivalent professional work experience in the communication area, combined with an advanced university degree in a related discipline.

Experience:
 Five years progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, of which two years should be in developing countries.  
 
Language: Good knowledge of English language and knowledge of the working language of the duty station.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the above position in UNICEF Kenya, to be based in Dadaab. 
Purpose of the Post: Under overall guidance of Chief of Field Operations and Emergency, and technical support from the Chief of Education, assist in the management of the Dadaab Field Office and development, design, planning, implementation and management of the Education programme in the five Dadaab Refugee Camps. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities
 
1. Represent UNICEF at the Dadaab level in all matters related to UNICEF’s programme planning and implementation, resource management, supply prepositioning, distribution and use of supplies are adequately managed for the refugees and host community. 
Provide leadership, guidance and supervision of the Dadaab Field Office staff, and ensure staff safety and security is given paramount importance.  

2. Technical Leadership in education sector
  • Analyzes, evaluates data and information on trends in the education sector in Dedaab and provides evidence based information to county government, and Nairobi office in order to increase access to quality ECDE, Primary and alternative Basic Education for refugees and host communities groups of children. 
  • Identifies relevant interventions and capacity building needs including trainings for key education stakeholders required to expand access and increase enrolment for children in Pre-primary and primary schooling in formal and non-formal settings in selected Counties.  
  • Contributes to the situation analysis and its periodic update through accurate and complete monitoring and analysis, and the timely preparation or finalization of sectoral input, using gender disaggregated data and analysis.
3. Programming and Management
  • Be rresponsible for overall development and establishment of the Field Office work plans, monitoring compliance, and providing support and guidance to ensure objectives are met. 
4. Coordination:
  • Interact with other UN agencies especially UNHCR, Government and other partners, NGO's, and bilateral agencies in the different stages of programme implementation in Dadaab. 
  • Follow up on implementation of recommendations and agreements if any.  
  • Provide technical support, orientation and guidance to implementing partners and government officials on appropriate technical and institutional capacity-building measures to achieve programme goals and expand coverage of services in the refugee camps.
5. Field Monitoring and reporting: 
  • Conduct field assessment visits in the refugee camps and in the host community for evaluating programme effectiveness, identifying bottlenecks and instituting remedial measures. 
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of progress/status reports required from the Field Office for management, Board, donors, budget reviews, programme analysis and assessment, annual reports.
6. Resource Mobilization: 
  • Identify possible donors and maintain close liaison with the Nairobi Office for fundraising for the refugee operation and ensure visibility as well communication for partners is done on timely manner.
Required qualifications, competencies, technical background and experience
 
Education: 
  • An Advanced University Degree in education, economics, psychology, sociology or other social science field is required.
Experience: 
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in social development planning and management in education and related areas at the international level, some of which preferably in a developing country is required. 
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is an asset. 
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required.  
  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.

USIU-Africa’s Institutional Planning and Advancement Division is the university’s commercial unit, responsible for strategic planning, marketing and communications, fundraising and alumni functions. 
The Division is looking to recruit an appropriate candidate for the following position:
Project Accountant
Key responsibilities
  • Effectively communicate with project managers and university management regarding contract documents, contract modifications and approvals.
  • Maintain project-related records, including contracts and budgets.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project managers and donors on various project-related issues
  • Prepare accurate financial reports in line with the approved budget on a monthly basis to university management and project managers
  • Monitor project funds balances to ensure there is no unauthorized over-expenditure.
  • Provide ad hoc reports as may be required by the project managers or university management
  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to university management and project managers
  • Prepare invoices from various projects for approval by the Chief Accountant

Qualifications and Experience
  • An undergraduate degree in business administration (accounts), commerce or a related field from an accredited university.

  • At least 2 years’ working experience in a busy accounting office

Aerobics, Dance & Leisure Instructor
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement aerobics, dance and leisure programs and classes to promote different levels of fitness and health programs
  • Plan routines; choose appropriate music and techniques for set of muscles within the students’ capabilities and limitations
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations governing the sport and use of the recreational facilities
  • Teach and demonstrate use of training equipment such as weights to supplement the aerobics and dance fitness programs
  • Plan and implement group and individual health package such as fitness, nutrition, exercise and rest schedules among others.
  • Organize and conduct competitions on and off campus
  • Issue and maintain equipment inventories as per the needs of students
  • Enforce the code of conduct in all programs/activities
  • Chaperone students on external functions under various fitness programs
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent from a reputable academic institution.
  • Training in aerobics and any other indoor fitness activities (e.g. Zumba, etc..)
  • At least 2 years continuous experience in training aerobics and related sports field

Assistant Sports Activities Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all sports activities on and off campus are conducted with full compliance of all policies and procedures as stipulated in the Students Handbook and Sports Handbook.
  • Facilitate the provision of First Aid and emergency medical needs of students engaging in any approved sports and co-curricular programs-related activity on campus and follow-up on injuries and treatment plans.
  • Oversee the upkeep and marking of sports fields/pitches.
  • Supervise and schedule work for work study students in the sports office.
  • Generate timely and periodic reports on sports events and results and submit them for publishing on the approved communication channels.
  • Conduct sports events publicity campaigns for all USIU-Africa sports events.
  • Plan and oversee coach work schedules, attendance and training programs and submit their performance reports on semester basis to the Sports Activity Coordinator.
  • Manage the sports store including: maintaining the kits, gym equipment and trophies inventory, tracking the distribution and use of USIU –Africa sports equipment and gear.
  • Provide oversight services in the activities of the Sports Affairs Committee (SPAC), including elections, sports activities calendar, meetings, intra murals, sports day, internal sports tournaments, attending planned fixtures and planning university wide events
  • Advise the head of section on sports-related matters such as emerging students sports trends and needs, status on kits/equipment and facilities, discipline and on the training needs of the coaches or teams.
  • Assist in chaperoning sports events
Qualifications and Experience
  • An undergraduate degree in social sciences or related field from an accredited university.
  • At least 2 years continuous experience at a supervisory or similar level in a sports program or institution

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head of Alumni Affairs in planning and implementation of programs and projects that strategically engage alumni in strengthening the Alumni Association’s programs while providing tangible benefits to both alumni and the university.
  • Publish Alumni Affairs content via alumni webpages, publications and social media.
  • Provide administrative support of the planning and implementation of social activities and events that strategically engage the alumni community.
